A customer's generous tip is astonishing on Instagram: a waitress in New York received $500 to fulfill a wish.
New York – When it comes to tipping, everyone has their own idea of what is appropriate. In Germany, for many people it is customary to tip 10 percent in a restaurant, while others make it dependent on the service in this situation. With prices rising, some restaurant visitors are even wondering whether they should generally still tip.
Man Tips Waitress $500: 'Magic Is Still Alive in New York City'
In the USA, on the other hand, the tipping culture is a bit more generous, as a waitress from New York recently proves: a customer dropped $500.
The young woman shares the receipt on Instagram, which shows the generous tip. The waitress wrote in her post, among other things: “Thank you to the gentleman who gave me this crazy and unexpected gift. I hope you come back so I can thank you personally. Magic is still alive in New York City.”
She also writes that the restaurant where she works is near Broadway. Many of her customers then see performances. She always asked what performances they were watching and said she wanted to see a performance herself. She could now do that with the money and got tickets, thus fulfilling a big wish.

Under the post, users are happy for the young woman. “Hats off to the very generous man!” says one of the comments. Another person wrote: “That was incredibly generous of your guest. What I’m thinking about is how good you must be at your job.”
This means that it is much better received by customers than another Waitress in the USA complaining about European customers' tips. Maybe it's simply cultural differences, after all, tipping in the USA is constantly increasing – now up to 30 percent.

Guests who were served by the waitress can also be found in the comments. “I don’t know if you remember, but you were our waitress (…) I’m so glad I found this on my feed today.”
For some people, the guest's gesture towards the waitress even seems to be quite touching. One person wrote: “Thank you for reminding everyone that hard work and a positive attitude make all the difference. And that karma comes back to you.” Another person sums up: “That's why New York City is the greatest city in the world.” Another woman on social media probably sees it differently and makes a different judgment about her trip to New York and receives from their followers contradiction.
