Magnussen: Doubts for 2025
The future of Kevin Magnussen in Formula 1 currently seems full of pitfalls for the Danish driver, especially after the announcement of the new Haas line-up which will not see him present for 2025. If the American team will focus on Oliver Bearman and Esteban Ocon, it is equally true that the seats currently free for next season are being filled: the latest example comes from Williams, which has made Carlos Sainz official, not to mention Alpine which seems close to promoting Jack Doohan.
Who believes in Danish
Magnussen’s stay in F1 seems to be getting more and more complicated for Magnussen, but those who believe in a new opportunity for the latter are Eddie Jordanfounder of the former team that bore his name: “Kevin has flashes of genius. There’s still room for him – he declared in the podcast Formula for Success – Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg are similar in terms of driving style and people. Kevin has damaged his reputation with some of the crazy things he did earlier in the year, but I’m not sure this resonates with other team principals“.
The penalties suffered
In fact, analyzing the first part of this world championship, Magnussen received four penalties in the Miami GP alone, plus two more in Saudi Arabia and China, with the Total penalty points up to 10. In this way, if he were to commit another foul deemed as such by Race Direction, the Dane would face a one-race disqualification. Episodes that have been criticized by commentators such as Martin Brundle, but which have seen Magnussen himself admit his mistakes, as he did in the post-race in Miami after the fight with Hamilton for eighth position.
Why not Sauber?
At present, in addition to the aforementioned Alpine, the free seats in F1 for 2025 in F1 could be in RB and Sauberwhich in 2026 will pass under the control of Audi. However, despite Jordan believing in Magnussen’s future in F1, the Irishman advised the Swiss team against reforming the Haas line-up at Hinwil by fielding the Dane alongside Hulkenberg, in order to focus on other projects: “I think they would be much wiser to hold on. – he added – why do they need a second pilot? They can hire other people. The only thing that is done is build a structure and salary package. Hire Kevin, if you want. It would be a great idea in many ways, but, at the same time, Audi’s financial gurus will ask themselves: ‘What is the cost of all this?’“
