São Paulo, 6 – AP Moeller-Maersk warned this Monday, 6, that geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East could reduce maritime transport capacity between Asia and the northern part of Europe by 15% to 20% and in the market Mediterranean during the second quarter of 2024.
In a note released this Monday, the company stated that “the complexity of the situation in the Red Sea has intensified in recent months”, with the expansion of the risk zone due to attacks that reach greater distances. “This situation forced our ships to make even longer journeys, resulting in additional time and costs” to transport cargo to their final destination, he pointed out.
Maersk listed the indirect effects observed on the transport industry, including bottlenecks and delays in equipment delivery, ship crowding and lack of capacity to fulfill routes.
The company stated that it will maintain the rerouting of routes around the Cape of Good Hope, located in South Africa, while working to improve the reliability of maritime transport by adding more “speed and capacity” to routes.
