Big tech presented the themes that “marked” the year, according to the number of searches carried out on its search engine
The platform Google Trends released the research that “marked” 2023, according to the number of searches carried out on Google. In Brazil, in the politics category, the inauguration of the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) came in 1st place. Followed by the names of former Minister of Justice Anderson Torres and STF Minister Alexandre de Moraes.
The top 5 is completed by searches for the name of First Lady Janja and the term “tax reform”.
Despite the big tech does not disclose the exact number of searches for each term, to create the list the company considers the search terms that had the greatest increase compared to the previous one.

In addition to ranking of most searched terms, Google also shows interest in these terms throughout the year. This way, it is possible to know when each term was most popular. In the survey, the big tech categorizes search terms in a range from 0 to 100. The higher the number, the greater the number of searches in the period.

- Lula’s inauguration – The peak of searches occurred during the 1st week of January, with the main searches being related to the time of the event. On the 1st date of the month, the PT member and the vice-president Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) took over the Executive Branch of Brazil. Remember what the inauguration was like.
- Anderson Torres – the peak of searches for his name occurred from January 8th to 14th. The main searches for the former Minister of Justice of the Bolsonaro government and the former Secretary of Public Security of Brasília were about his connection with the former president, explanations of who Torres was and his arrest, respectively. - Federal intervention – During the week of extremist acts on January 8th, searches for federal intervention reached their peak. President Lula ordered federal intervention in public security in the Brazilian capital after protesters against the result of the 2022 election invaded and vandalized the buildings of the Três Poderes, in Brasília.
- Deltan Dallagnol – the peak of searches for the former congressman's name on Google occurred in the week of May 14th to 20th, when the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) unanimously decided to revoke the mandate of Deltan Dallagnol (Podemos-PR). The Court considered that the former Lava Jato prosecutor resigned from the MP-PR (Public Ministry of Paraná) to avoid an administrative punishment, which could make him ineligible.

During the period, the GSI (Institutional Security Office) released the list of visits received by former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro at the Palácio da Alvorada, which was under secrecy, after Lula asked the CGU (Comptroller General of the Union) to reevaluate the imposition of secrecy on public administration information by the previous administration.
