Meeting is not on the president’s official agenda; Measures to help families affected by floods should be discussed
The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) called a ministerial meeting this Monday morning (May 13, 2024) to discuss emergency measures and aid in the reconstruction of Rio Grande do Sul. Hit by strong floods two weeks ago, the State is on alert for a worsening weather conditions in the coming days. The meeting was scheduled for 5pm and will be held at Palácio do Planalto. The commitment is not on the president’s agenda. Before that, at 3:30 pm, Lula will hold a virtual meeting with the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite (PSDB), and with the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad. The federal government must accept the request of the government of Rio Grande do Sul to suspend the State’s debt with the Union for at least 2 years.
