The medical center reported that “the patient Luis Andrés Quiñones Guzmán was admitted to the institution on September 24, 2022, with neurological deterioration as a result of head trauma due to traumatic cranial contusions secondary to his professional boxing activity.”
He adds that “after a few hours of the combat he presents progressive drowsiness, obtundation, with a decerebrate posture to central stimuli, at that moment the reactivity and pupillary anatomy is not evaluable, with the glawsgow scale (scale that measures the state of consciousness in cases of brain trauma and evaluates ocular response, motor response and verbal response normal value 15/15) less than 8”.
Given this, the doctors had to proceed to perform “orotracheal intubation and invasive mechanical ventilation to protect the airway and neurological.”
Quiñones, 25 years old, underwent complementary studies, and was assessed by neurosurgery, showing a left frontoparietal subdural hematoma in a simple skull CT.
“The neurosurgery service performs left frontoparietal decompressive craniectomy, it is left under sedoanalgesia for 48 hours, with anti-edema measures and full neuroprotection and all the multisystem support of the case for the next 48 hours,” the statement closes.
