The governor of Rio Grande do Sul Eduardo Leite (PSDB) said that the state will need a “Marshall plan” of investment to rebuild infrastructure damaged after the rains that hit the state.
Alongside President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the President of the Chamber of Deputies Arthur Lira and the President of the Senate Rodrigo Pacheco, the governor reaffirmed, in a press conference this Sunday, the 5th, that it will be necessary to think about processes, resources and extraordinary measures that speed up assistance to people who have suffered losses, avoiding bureaucracy and delays.
“We are experiencing a war scenario in the state, so we will need post-war treatment,” he said at a press conference
The original Marshall Plan was a United States aid program for the economic reconstruction of European countries after World War II.
“The serious problem we have with debts incurred over time here in the state already makes it difficult for us to act in times of normality. In times of exceptionality, we will not be able to respond, we will not have the breath to respond if we do not forward certain solutions”, stated the governor, who mentioned the state’s debt to the Union, which currently totals R$ 3.5 billion and has been in the Tax Recovery Regime (RRF) since 2022.
