Luis Enrique praises Kylian Mbappé and is not surprised that he is leaving PSG

Before the game against Toulouse, Luis Enrique gave a press conference in which he praised Mbappé. “He is a legend of the club. He is a player who has given everything to the club and the club, of course, has given everything to him, I wish him the best in the future,” he said.

“I understand and can understand his decision,” added Luis Enrique, and then stated: “PSG will continue to be great.”

The coach was not surprised by the announcement. “It’s something that we’ve known for a long time, you all knew it, but it was made public yesterday (Friday), it doesn’t change the panorama,” he said.

Luis Enrique denied having had problems with Mbappé. “Despite the fact that they have wanted to confront us many times, and that Kylian himself publicly denied it, (…) I can only speak highly of Kylian Mbappé, the footballer and the person,” he said.

The official news of Mbappé’s departure came once PSG was eliminated from the Champions League, after losing 0-1 at home against Borussia Dortmund, something that hit the group very hard.

“I’m not going to deceive you, it’s clear that these have been emotionally difficult days due to how the tie took place (…), staying so close to a final is painful and that’s how I feel with the team,” Luis Enrique said before from the press conference.

Mbappé will play his last game in front of PSG fans this Sunday, against Toulouse, but he will still have, on paper, three more games with the team: The last two dates of Ligue 1 will be away, against Nice, on May 15, and Metz, four days later. And on the 25th they will play the French Cup final against Olympique Lyon.
