Mexico City.- Her leading men in film have been Pedro Fernández, Luis Miguel, Manuel Mijares, Guillermo Capetillo and Alejandro Fernández. Now, Lucero made a “perfect match” with Benny Ibarra in the film that will mark her return to the big screen after 20 years.
The actress and singer finished filming just a few weeks ago what she has described as an endearing love story with Timbiriche, after Zapata, El Sueño del Héroe, from 2004, with “El Potrillo”, was her last feature film.
“This film is my return to the big screen and I am very excited, very satisfied and happy because, first of all, I am working again with Chava Cartas, who was the director of El Gallo de Oro, and who is great, he gives me a lot of confidence and I have found in him a very interesting working partnership,” said Lucero in an interview.
And although she and Ibarra have known each other since they were children, and both have grown up within the Mexican artistic environment, they had never
worked together.
Today, both Lucero, 54, and Benny, 53, were very pleased with the good team they formed after sharing several weeks on this film project that, they both considered, has a lot of magic.
“Working with Benny Ibarra for the first time is a treat, because I have known Benny for many years. We have not really been friends because we have never lived together for a long time, until before we started the film,” shared the actress.
Benny considered that the story they star in is beautiful, different and with a certain tender touch.
“It’s not just about sitting down to eat popcorn, it’s a ‘movie’ that will make you think and meditate on the times we are living in right now, and the times of our parents. Like any good script, I think the film has many angles that can be interesting for people,” said the singer, who previously made Una Navidad No Tan Padre (2021).
“The film is being edited, we shot it in Mexico City and it’s going to be released on the big screen,” added Benny, who highlighted Lucero’s ease with her character, which will surely be very popular.
The days of filming the film produced by Francisco González Compeán and Draco Films, turned the two artists into excellent companions.
“He’s always been a great guy to me. We have a lot of mutual friends through whom we’ve met up sometimes, and through our friends we know a little about each other, but being able to share the set, being able to live together for several weeks filming a movie, makes us much closer,” explained the so-called “America’s Sweetheart.”
“I can already confirm that Benny is an excellent person, that he is a 10 in every aspect; so talented, but simple and straightforward in his way of being and living, that suddenly one does not realize how great he is. This makes him extremely important, because he never goes through life showing what he knows or is.”
The two stars’ coexistence was great, they said, so they hope that this good vibe will be projected in the film.
“It was an incredible experience to go to work every day with Lucero, to be there, chatting, then to go to lunch or dinner. What you get from Lucero is that, a human being of such luminosity and coherence that I was very pleased with,” shared Benny.
And just as the singer pointed out that this project made them good friends now, Benny reaffirmed it.
“Now she is a close friend who knows some of my secrets,” said the actor and music producer, laughing. “I had never worked with her before.”
Lucero explained that her co-star was always in a good mood, happy and very committed to his character.
“I’m happy with his work in the film, so it was a really big surprise to meet Benny like this after so many years of knowing each other,” said the interpreter of “Sobreviviré.”
The film still doesn’t have a release date or an official title, which is why no one mentioned it in the talk, they only revealed that actress Ofelia Medina is also part of the cast.
“I am very happy to be back in the cinema with all these great characters that give me the opportunity to continue with my acting career, with my acting side, and I look forward to the big screen release so I can see myself in the cinema again, because I am also one of those who is still deeply in love with cinema,” the actress emphasized.
