As if the unspeakable behavior of some spectators present on the Red Bull Ring circuit last weekend were not enough, who became the protagonists of insults and offenses of a discriminatory nature against other fans who came to the track to attend the Grand Prix, from Belgium comes the news of another serious case of offenses – this time even broadcast live on TV – against a driver. The negative protagonist of the story was the French journalist Lionel Froissartwho was working with the Belgian channel in Austria RTBF Sport.
Froissart during his speech defined “an autistic“ Lance Stroll, immediately triggering an indignant reaction from colleagues. The claim was immediately rejected by colleague Gaetan Vigneron, who replied: “It’s too strong. You’re exaggerating“. Froissart, however, reiterated his attack on the Aston Martin driver, claiming that “honestly, that’s the truth“. Naturally, the episode did not go unnoticed, also because the feed of the Belgian broadcaster was taken up as an official commentary in French for F1TV, the official channel of the Circus. The incident, unsurprisingly, triggered a storm on social media.
Immediately the RTBF has suspended Froissartcommunicating the initiative through an official document: “RTBF strongly condemns the words used on Sunday 10 July live by its collaborator Lionel Froissart during the Austrian Grand Prix – reads the note – associating autism with a pilot’s way of communicating was misplaced and completely inconsistent with RTBF values. An internal investigation will be conducted to hear everyone involved. The goal is to understand in detail what may have led to this accident. Pending the results of this investigation, RTBF will no longer work with the employee in question until further notice“.
