The average Dutch motorist apparently has the short-term memory of a goldfish with dementia. After it has been dry for a while, we in the Netherlands seem to have collectively forgotten what rain actually is and how we should behave in the car during a rain shower. The weather gods cry at the sad level on the Dutch highways – and so it is a vicious circle.
According to Flitsmeister, there was a delay of 2,750 minutes on the Dutch highways this morning, while that is normally about 722 minutes. There were also no less than 60 percent more accidents this Thursday morning than around the same time last week. And that while it wasn’t even raining that hard. Rain is therefore not only good for the hydrangeas; also for the leaves of the claim form.
Rain in the Netherlands causes a short circuit
You have noticed it yourself on the highway. With a splash of rain, people suddenly no longer dare to change lanes, they brake unnecessarily and they no longer dare to drive at 100. A little water causes a total short circuit in the upper chamber. And that while this is not exactly the first time that it rains in the Netherlands.
It is wise to take into account a longer braking distance and perhaps even less visibility, but that is also a good motivation not to brake unnecessarily. A small side note is that last week it was still a holiday in the South Region, but holidaymakers who reluctantly return to the office again will never see an increase of 60 percent.
