Senator claims that dissatisfaction is “resulting from the deputy’s own mistake”, who called the minister “incompetent”
After the repercussion of the disagreement between the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), and the Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilhathe senator Renan Calheiros (MDB-AL) stated in X (ex-Twitter), this Friday (April 12, 2024), that Lira's hatred is the “poison resulting from one’s own error”.
According to Calheiros, Lira's political opponent in Alagoas, the “thug political lawyering” is an affront to the Supreme Court's decision and “outsourcing incompetence doesn’t erase a shot in the foot”. The senator also concluded by saying “9 months to go”. This is approximately the remaining period of Lira's term as president of the House.
On Thursday (April 11), Lira said that the minister is her personal enemy and called him a “incompetent”. He said that Padilha is responsible for planting “fake news” about an alleged weakening of the President of the House with the decision to maintain the prison of Chiquinho Brazão (no party-RJ).
“This news today that you are trying to verbalize, because the big newspapers did it, was leaked from the government and basically from Minister Padilha, who is disaffected, as well as personally incompetent. There is no partisanship. I made it clear that yesterday the vote was individual, with each deputy responsible for the vote they gave”said Lira.
Chiquinho Brazão, accused of ordering the murder of Rio councilor Marielle Franco (Psol) in 2018, had his arrest ratified by the Chamber on Wednesday (April 10). As he was a member of the National Congress, the Casa Baixa had to give an opinion on the arrest issued by the STF (Federal Court of Justice).
The vote was close. There were 277 votes in favor and 129 against. 257 votes in favor were needed for Brazão to remain in prison.
On the afternoon of this Friday (12), Padilha addressed the topic during a speech to journalists. He said he will not sink to the level of criticism made by the President of the Chamber.
“About competence, I leave the words of President Lula, who spoke about this the day before yesterday. Regarding the rest of the words, honestly I'm not going to stoop to that level. I'm the son of an Arretada woman from Alagoas who always said that when 1 doesn't want to, 2 don't fight. I learned to do politics with President Lula, with civilityand,” said Padilha.
