Let’s baptize what is new

It doesn’t have to be the Nazi salute for us to feel afraid of what Musk represents, which is just as dangerous or more dangerous because it will arrive insidiously, as in a dystopia, and few will be able to realize it.

We cannot continue to designate with denominations twenty-simononic to new phenomena that have emerged with the disturbing awakening of the 21st century. Europe, the European theorists, the genesis of so many ideologies and so many political and philosophical concepts to understand the world and history, you should be able to baptize the new plutocracy that constitutes a threat that needs to be individualized, named and pointed out. I just finished a monumental essay by Michael Burleigh that I recommend, “The Third Reich. A new history” and I have underlined and annotated and reviewed it with my current eyes to better appreciate the common characteristics and the insurmountable differences between the dictatorial and authoritarian regimes of the twentieth century – Italian fascism, German Nazism and Russian communism – and those that stalk us currently.

Using the concept of fascism or Nazism for what is coming denotes intellectual laziness at best. Considering that Elon Musk has given “the Nazi salute” and leaving on his feet is very centripetal and more typical of someone who does not leave his European shoes than anything else. Does Musk know anything about Nazism? I’m not even clear on it. I don’t know what movies you’ve seen about it. I don’t think the depth of his political thought is anything like anything we Europeans can intuit. Musk is a guy who spoke with Meloni about the passion they both feel for ancient Rome and even proposed a gladiatorial challenge with Zuckenberg in the Colosseum. He is the guy who puts up avatars of Kekius Maximus, the one who claims to be the emperor of Mars and that when he gets there he will urbanize it following the guidelines of the Roman Empire. So let’s see if he thought it was Russell Crowe or directly Caesar Augustus, his main character, greeting the masses. The previous chest hit brings it closer to this version. In any case, he did not get the inclination or the opening degrees right.

But it doesn’t have to be the Nazi salute for us to feel afraid of what Musk represents, which is just as dangerous or more dangerous because it will arrive insidiously, as in a dystopia, and few will be able to realize it. The world promoted by the new feudal lords, protected by Emperor Trump, is a world in which violence or extermination camps will not be necessary to defeat democracies and to dominate the masses who will voluntarily surrender, convinced of being exercising their own freedom. This is what they have done so far. Create a need, convince ourselves that they came to solve it, become addicts without really caring what is being destroyed for the sake of our pleasure and comfort. The technologists arrived with their sales and their home delivery packages, with their food at the door, with their instant communication, with their networks that make us believe that the whole world listens to us and captive and unarmed we fell before them. We didn’t give a damn what will happen to commerce, to neighborhoods, to coexistence, to those who brought us the order. The rest will be the same. We will not be able to live without them, without their AI assistants, without their robots, without their autonomous cars, without their flying taxis, without whatever they create not only to steal our data, but to steal our will and the slightest hint of criticism. or revolt and, perhaps, even the last shred of humanity.

Their companies are larger than states. Musk must know that not even Crassus achieved a fortune and power like his. If the stock market value of several of them is higher than the GDP of many states, including Spain, how will the states impose their will? Can they even dare? Won’t corporations be our next states? Don’t believe, in science fiction this concept of corporation-state, of the citizenship of the corporation, has already been considered, and they, inspired or not by it, already build their cities to impose their own laws and norms on them. They will manage the global conversation for their purposes. Is Musk interested in the German AfD, a new Nazism, or is he interested in cultivating someone who allows Tesla, which already manufactures in Berlin, to buy the people’s car or any other large automobile industry now in crisis? Is Trump interested in a new state or the rare earths of Greenland to compete with China? They aspire to earn money, to run the world as they wish to achieve it, to never die and to flee the earth when they destroy it. Spot. They have no other real ideology. And it is now clear that the owners of big technology companies – so progressive and so “woke” before – have come en masse to pay homage to their lord.

We must name and theorize this new movement and stop calling it Nazism or Fascism because it is something else. Furthermore, using such comparisons may be useful with one segment of the population, but to others, and there are many, it seems that all this is so far from the genocides of the 20th century that they simply do not believe it and move on. It is essential to give it an appropriate name and theorize about its origin and methods, to alert the population about the real risks, I insist real, that they pose for liberal democracies. And they are not the only danger. We bear the consequences of the measures they take to stop them, because if these in turn represent a democratic setback, the work will be done from within.

No, do not continue telling the people that they will come with boots and belts, with dark shirts, with bracelets and weapons, with paramilitary groups, with prison and death. They will come with new dream factories, they will come distracting us from what is important, making us believe that what we have is not worth it and that what they bring us is complete happiness. Let us prepare to resist our own instincts and weaknesses because that and no other is their secret weapon to enslave us and dominate the world.

They are not Nazis. They are not fascists. They are the new masters of the world and we have given them the power they have.
