‘L’escut al pit’, the anthem of Barcelona’s 125th anniversary

With 63% of the votes of Barcelona members, the song L’escut to the pit was chosen as the club’s 125th anniversary anthem. The song was heard this Friday at the Gran Teatre del Liceu where the results of the voting were revealed.

The entity launched a lyric contest to find that new celebration song and then commissioned three musicians to write the melodies to form three finalists. The partners had to choose between that shortlist and L’escut to the pit was the winner over a feeling and From bressol to l’infinit.

The result

With 63% of the votes, the song beat ‘Un sentiment’ and ‘Del bressol a l’infinit’, the other two finalists

The lyrics are by Xavier Gonzàlez-Costa and the music was composed by Carles Casas. The Orfeó Català and the Dracs animation group provided the voices. While producers Alizzz and Josep Montero made the final arrangements.

At 8:37 p.m., David Carabén, commissioner of the anniversary, announced that voting was closed. And a little before nine at night, president Joan Laporta opened the envelope to reveal the result.

Of course, from the first moment, the entity wanted to clarify that in no way the objective is to replace the Cant del Barça as the club’s official anthem.

The song refers to the fans’ passion for the team and the resilience of a club used to rising up to achieve its greatest successes and plays with the proximity between the crest of the shirts and the heart.
