Chinese tech giant Lenovo has opened its first in-house manufacturing facility in Europe. Headquartered in Ullo, Hungary, the facility focuses its resources primarily on building high-end server infrastructures, storage systems and PC workstations used by customers across the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. The investment, which expands Lenovo’s international manufacturing operations, has significant economic potential for the Hungarian public and private sector, thanks to increased production capacity, the ability to better collaborate with local suppliers and the creation of new jobs. work. The site already employs more than a thousand full-time employees in various engineering, management and operational roles, a number that will continue to increase as the plant approaches full capacity, the company said. The opening of the plant is part of the European Chip Act passed by the EU, which provides for the internal manufacturing on the continent of hardware components.
Spanning nearly 50,000 square meters across two buildings and three floors, the new site is one of Lenovo’s largest manufacturing facilities. The production line is capable of producing more than 1,000 servers and 4,000 workstations per day, each of which is built specifically to customer needs. The plant is equipped with automation capabilities, including a building management system that operates in the workshop and in the logistics area to monitor temperature, humidity, asset condition and robotic labeling of DIMMs. The new purpose built building was equipped with solar panels with a capacity of 0.5 megawatts, enough energy to power the equivalent of a small village. Building the devices locally also drastically reduces the transportation kilometers of these products, offering more efficient and sustainable transportation options. The Hungarian plant is part of Lenovo’s global manufacturing and supply chain strategy, serving customers in 180 markets from over 35 manufacturing sites around the world, including Argentina, Brazil, China, Germany, Hungary, India, Japan, Mexico and United States.
