The Court of Appeal has estimated it will deliver its verdict in February. A recent announcement indicates that the murder charge may be dismissed in the Court of Appeal.
Helsinki The Court of Appeal has decided to appoint a former head of the Helsinki Drug Police Jari Aarnion release from pre-trial detention. Aarnio is currently awaiting conviction for the murder in which he is charged.
“Jari Seppo Aarnio is ordered to be released immediately, unless there are other reasons to detain him,” the court said in a recent resolution.
On the basis of the evidence and other evidence presented at the main hearing, the Court of Appeal found that the conditions for Aarnio’s detention no longer existed. In practice, the decision of the Court of Appeal gives strong indications that Aarnio’s murder charge may be dismissed in the Court of Appeal.
Helsinki the district court convicted Aarnio in December last year of an old assassination. By law, Aarnio had knowledge of the murder plot, but as a police officer, he did not block it.
The assassination took place in 2003. Initially, three Finnish criminals and a Swedish client were convicted.
Aarnio is currently serving a prison sentence for, among other things, aggravated drug offenses and aggravated official offenses, for which he has been sentenced to 13 years in prison.
The news is being updated.
