Health Minister Lauterbauch is relying on a new committee of experts for the future corona strategy of the federal government. With the planned line-up, things should not always come to an agreement there.
Berlin – With a new committee of experts, the federal government wants to broaden its advice on the corona pandemic.
“As the federal government, we want to base the fight against pandemics more strongly on scientific expertise,” said Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) on Saturday. It is important to seek advice from the broadest possible panel of experts. “We will meet on Tuesday and discuss how to proceed. For me, close cooperation with these scientists will be the basis of my policy. We have known each other for a long time, ”Lauterbach continues.
“Welt am Sonntag” reported that the so-called Scientific Expert Committee included Christian Drosten, chief virologist at the Berlin Charité, and Hendrik Streeck, head of the virological institute at the Bonn University Clinic. In the past, both experts had expressed very different views on how to cope with the crisis. Unlike Drosten, Streeck was not involved in Corona consultations under Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU).
In addition to the virologist duo, Thomas Mertens, head of the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko), Lothar Wieler, President of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) as well as the virologist Melanie Brinkmann (Helmholtz Center for Infection Research), the physicist Viola Priesemann (Max Planck Institute) and intensive care physician Christian Karagiannidis (Divi Intensive Care Register) belong to the Expert Council. dpa
