Kiev residents were told to go to the nearest shelter in the early hours of Thursday (local time) after warning sirens went off. Videos shared on social media showed strong explosions hitting the Ukrainian capital and its surroundings.
Ukrainian media also reported on fighting in the suburbs of the metropolis. A Russian plane would have been shot down. The information cannot be independently verified.
“The enemy is trying to invade the capital,” wrote Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko in a news channel on Telegram.
