Positives would say the fire on the Felicity Ace is particularly annoying, but no one was hurt, it’s all tin and everything is replaceable. The latter may not be quite right. Andrea Baldi, the CEO of Lamborghini, confirms Automotive News that there are indeed cars of his brand on the ship, but that they may not all be replaceable.
The Huracáns and Uruses on the ship can thus be reordered from the factory. With the Aventadors on the Felicity Ace it becomes a lot more difficult. Production of the V12 supercar is in its final stages and it is not clear whether replacements can be built. Production is partly dependent on suppliers and the space in the factory is also needed for the successor of the Aventador.
Baldi hopes there are still Aventadors on the Felicity Ace to save
Baldi says: ‘The car is sold out, so there’s always a possibility that out of 563 there will be a few [orders van andere klanten] be canceled so that the Aventadors [op het schip] can be replaced. But rather I hope there are at least a few Aventadors on the ship safe.’ It concerns cars that have already been bought by customers, so no dealer stock.
The Aventadors on the ship would be Ultimae versions, the very last copies of the Aventador. It is therefore not the case that customers can arrange another nice second-hand copy at the dealer; these Aventadors are rare and probably an investment for many buyers. Discount or priority on the successor of the Aventador may therefore not be sufficient for these customers. Or would the Ultimae’s be worth more with a little fire damage?
Would you still want these Aventadors if they had no fire damage?
It’s a big ship, so obviously the Aventadors on the Felicity Ace could have been safely in an untouched corner. But even if the Aventadors weren’t on fire, they could be damaged from the smoke or heat. Or the fire water. Baldi also hints at restoring the existing ones on the ship. “We’re going to notify customers as soon as we have a final picture,” Baldi said. “And you know, we’re still hoping for the best, but we’re prepared for the worst.”
No Bugattis on the Felicity Ace
Contrary to previous reports, Bugatti confirms to Car & Driver that there are no cars of the French brand on the burning freighter. The fire on the boat is said to be under control at the moment, but bad weather would hamper the salvage.
