Labor market Warning: About 25,000 nurses are on strike in six hospital districts

According to Tehy and Super, the strike warning was led by “the employer’s complete reluctance to take the sote crisis and the shortage of nurses at the negotiating table seriously”.

Caregivers organizations Tehy and Super filed a strike warning in six hospital districts on Thursday. If implemented, the strike would have about 25,000 members of organizations, including nurses and community nurses.

It’s already going on for a week ban on overtime and shift work.

The strike, which begins on Friday, March 18, will last two weeks. In addition to the six hospital districts, it covers companies or cooperatives owned or closely associated with them.

The strike would end on April 1st.

Municipal sector negotiations on new collective agreements were suspended on Monday. Employers of municipal and welfare areas KT stated that there are no preconditions for the agreement, because the requirements of all municipal employees’ organizations payroll programs are too expensive.

On Tuesday, nursing organizations announced a ban on overtime and shift work for the entire municipal sector.

According to the organizations, the more severe strike warning was caused by “the complete reluctance of the employer to take the social crisis and the shortage of nurses at the negotiating table seriously, so that possible solutions have not even been discussed”.

Nursing organizations the proposed SOTE rescue program would increase the salaries of SOTE staff by 3.6% per year for five years in addition to the usual contract increases.

The increases so far, in line with the so-called general line, have been around 2% for next year.

Contract period in the municipal sector ended on 28 February. The duty of peace at work will no longer apply from 1 March.

Strike warning The Northern Ostrobothnia Hospital District, the Northern Savonia Hospital District, the Southwest Finland Hospital District, the Pirkanmaa Hospital District, the Helsinki and Uusimaa Hospital District and the Central Finland Hospital District.

In strike areas, protection work is provided on the basis of protective work negotiations for immediate treatment to protect the lives of patients or prevent permanent serious injury.

The strike covers members with an employment contract.
