Labor market | The nurses’ salary agreement already raised new disputes, but what about the raises? HS’s calculator shows how basic salaries can increase

Some of the nurses’ salary increases are agreed locally, so not everyone gets the same big increases. HS’s calculator helps you figure out how big the basic salary increases can be in the coming years.

Nurses an agreement was found in the long-running labor dispute on Monday, which immediately ended industrial action, such as the preparation of mass layoffs.

However, the labor peace achieved by the agreement was immediately followed by a dispute between the nursing organizations and the employers’ side about whether the nurses received better salary increases than the rest of the municipal sector or whether they had to settle for the same salary program. The basis for both interpretations can be found in the contract documents.

The dispute was not only between the nursing unions and the employer side, as the exclusion of early childhood education workers from the additional money agreed in the contract has already caused a rift between the unions as well.

Differences in interpretation can also be seen in terms. The nurses’ organizations call the wage increase given to the nurses “their own additional salary program”, the municipal employers and the national mediator call it the “coordination of salaries” required by law for the nurses. The reconciliation proposal talks about the coordination of salaries, the development of salary and the introduction of new salary systems.

At least nursing unions for one thing Do it and Great and Municipal and welfare area employers representing the employer KT however, they agree: in the five years 2022–2027, the agreement will increase the average salary of nurses by at least 17.3 percent. Taking into account the fact that step-by-step increases are always calculated on top of previous increases, the actual average wage increase is at least 18.7 percent.

These numbers are reached when adding up the so-called general contract increases, the increases in the wage program of the entire municipal sector, and the most recent six percent increase negotiated only for nurses.

Although the effect of the wage settlement on the earnings of caregivers has been partially calculated until 2027, the contract period and the labor peace in the sector will already end on May Day 2025. There will be a new twist at the negotiating table later on wage increases after this.

Below The calculator below shows how the basic salaries of caregivers may develop in the coming years. In reality, some of the raises are agreed locally and their purpose is also to equalize salary differences, so not all employees get the same amount of raises.

There are 180,000 employees covered by the nurses’ agreement. Different average salaries for positions vary, for example, from around 2,250 euros for nurses to just under 5,500 euros for senior nurses. How the distribution of the increases will be agreed locally will only become clear in the coming years. The information in the calculator is based on the average increase percentages of the contract, so they are only indicative at best.
