Spice – An 11-month-old baby died at the Sant’Andrea hospital della Spezia for respiratory failure caused by a suspected Rsv infection (respiratory syncytial virus), a disease that has reached the news due to a boom in cases in Italy and for having also affected the child of Fedez and Chiara Ferragni. The child was taken to the emergency room on Sunday afternoon: the parents, as a note from the ASL5 points out, had told the health staff that they were worried because their son had a persistent cough for about twenty-four hours.
The baby, after being subjected to a Covid-19 antigenic swab – negative result – was transferred to the pediatric emergency room. There, however, according to the reconstruction of the health company, the picture quickly worsened.
“The intervention of the resuscitator was requested to carry out a protected transfer to the Gaslini hospital in Genoa, as a regional reference center. Unfortunately, due to severe clinical instability, the option was discarded and it was the transport team of the Gaslini Intensive Care Unit to intervene at Sant’Andrea with which a structured and consolidated collaboration relationship has existed for some time – explains Asl5 -. After several attempts at resuscitation, the little boy died of cardio-circulatory arrest around 4 in the morning. The diagnostic hypothesis is acute respiratory failure sustained by an Rsv infection (respiratory syncytial virus) since the patient tested positive for respiratory pathogens carried out on a swab. Tomorrow morning – concludes the Local Health Authority – the diagnostic test will be performed to ascertain the cause of death “.
