Atalanta, Gasperini: “Koopmeiners has decided to go to Juventus”
“The situation was going very well until last week, then Koopmeiners decided to go to Juventus”. Gian Piero Gasperini drops the bombshell during an interview with Eco di Bergamo a few days before Atalanta-Real Madrid, which will award the 2024 European Super Cup. On the Dutch midfielder, he reveals: “He already has an agreement with Juve, he feels stressed. With this attitude he can’t be useful to the team, nor to his teammates”.
Koopmeiners will not play Atalanta-Real Madrid
“He has decided not to play or train with us anymore”, the words of the Atalanta coach, effectively announcing that Koopmeiners will miss the final scheduled for August 14 in Warsaw: “We are at rock bottom – underlines Gasp, also remembering the long-term injured Scamacca and Scalvini – the club will take care of it, but at the moment the team is much less competitive than at the end of last season. There are still three situations that the club is working on”.
Koopmeiners-Juventus, Gasperini: “Atalanta feels blackmailed by the situation”
Luca Percassi had explained several times in recent months that the sale of Koopmeiners “was never in the club’s plans”, but according to Gasperini: “The club has taken a very firm stance, because it feels blackmailed by the situation”.
“This situation is different from other times when Atalanta sold for a fortune,” says Gasp. “Did I count on Koopmeiners? Surely, or at least I counted on a negotiation that would take place like I had seen so many in Atalanta. Instead, this situation came out that led to a stiffening of the parties. I understand the player’s desire, I understand Atalanta’s attitude of not being blackmailed. But the fact is that Atalanta was unlucky in losing three such important players (Scalvini, Scamacca and Koopmeiners, ed.), who take away a lot from the team in terms of technique.”
