A fire broke out in the mezzanine ceiling of a single-family house when the resident used a hot air fan. According to the fire marshal, you should not heat the pipes yourself.
Frozen ones a small fire broke out in a detached house in Kirkkonummi on Monday due to the heating of the pipes.
The rescue service of Länsi Uusimaa received an alert on Sjökullanintie at half past four.
“The older gentleman had heated the pipe in the upper floor of the house with a hot air blower,” says the fire marshal on duty at the rescue service Riku Rantala.
In addition to the pipes, the air heated the roof insulation, causing a small fire in the middle ceiling of the house.
The fire department had to make a hole in the roof of the house to extinguish the fire. The hole was patched, and there was no significant personal or property damage.
The house was also in habitable condition. The situation could have been much worse if the starting fire hadn't been noticed, Rantala estimates.
According to him, you shouldn't heat the pipes yourself.
“It's worth waiting for spring or ordering a plumber. When the frozen pipe starts to melt on one side of the wall, the other side is already on fire.”
