The British King, Charles III, has been diagnosed with a type of cancer not yet specified, and for which no details were provided regarding its stage or prognosis, Buckingham Palace reported this Monday, February 5.
The British royal house explained in a statement that a tumor was discovered during the surgical procedure performed on his prostate in January, although the BBC public corporation detailed that it is not prostate cancer.
The king, 75, began the “regular treatment schedule” this Monday, so he will postpone his public commitments and other royal members are expected to replace him during the treatment. However, he will continue with his constitutional role as Head of State, including procedures and private meetings.
However, Buckingham Palace says the King “remains entirely positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to his public duties as soon as possible.”
“State councilors” replace the monarch when the Head of State is unable to perform his official duties in accordance with the constitutional mechanism. Currently among them are Queen Camilla, Prince William, Princess Anne and Prince Edward, while Princes Harry and Andrew can no longer be called.
