The second season of the anime based on the work of Koyoharu Gotouge ended in early 2022, but like any other adaptation, ufotable – in this case – took some creative liberties that completely set it apart from the original source, the manga by Kimetsu no Yaiba .
Although, they are not fillers as extensive as in dragon ball or Naruto, Ufotable did end up changing the fate of the final fights and, if you are a fan of this franchise, you will have noticed that this was not a bad decision.
Before addressing the great changes that the manga of Kimetsu no Yaibalet’s go with a detail that you may not have noticed: The Swords of Tengen Uzui. While in the manga it is revealed that these weapons contain an explosive power that not even demon moons could resist. The anime adaptation left out this detail and directly altered the way the battle between Tengen and Gyutarō.
This change may have been made because the anime lacks a narrator voice to give this type of explanation, but its consequences were immediate.
The final fight in the Kimetsu no Yaiba manga vs the anime
As we mentioned, the final battle of the Red Light District Arc in the manga of Kimetsu no Yaiba it was slightly different. Tengen mastered his musical score technique with his breath of sound and, thanks to it, he was able to easily defeat his adversary. However, in the anime, we saw a display of lights and sparkles reminiscent of classic action series like dragon ball z naruto or bleach.
The length of this fight itself varies quite a bit, from a couple of pages to several minutes of animation. What’s more, this was another opportunity for ufotable to show off the quality of their animation in combat scenes, like they have done in Fate Zero, Fate Grand Orderetc.
On the other hand, in the manga Kimetsu no Yaiba when Gyutaro’s corpse released a burst of demonic blood, it was nowhere near the sight in the anime. In the original play, he didn’t flood the city or even hit another person.
Unreleased scenes from the anime
Another understandable change for the sake of the story was the role of Nezuko in the final battle of the Red District Arc, in the manga of Kimetsu no Yaiba, we see how this young woman ends up sleeping exhausted by the physical wear and tear she suffered. However, in the anime she has a more prominent role after the battle and she helps the demon hunters recover.
Another of the unpublished scenes in the anime in the Red Light District arc happens in the flashbacks of Tengen Uzui when he and his wives visit the grave of the Uzui family. This scene helps the audience understand how this peculiar family that has roots in traditional Japanese culture came about. This extra unfolds not only the story of the hashira of sound, but also that of the very district in which he lives.
Also, the adventures he has Tengen Uzui as Inosuke and Zenitsu’s babysitter they are something that did not exist in the manga Kimetsu no Yaiba. In Gotouge’s play, this story doesn’t exist, they head straight to the Butterfly Mansion once they reach Yoshiwara, home of the Red Light District.
Finally, at the Mansion of Butterflies, we see Tanjiro Kamado and Nezuko fight a spider demon before continuing their adventure. This fight does not exist in the manga Kimetsu no Yaibabut who doesn’t love to see the Kamado family in action?
Let’s wait to see what new changes the third season will bring, which will premiere on April 3, 2023.
