In the last hours of Friday, his photo made the rounds of the web, giving hope to the capital under attack by Russian forces. In August it happened with Havva, an Afghan girl who saw the light on the plane that saved her from the Taliban hell
Two crossed destinies, separated by kilometers apart. Not those that separate Kabul from Kiev, capitals linked by the red thread of the war between 2021 and 2022. But the kilometers away, this time, are to be calculated between underground and clouds, sky and earth. And they are two stories with a happy ending, those of the two babies who went around the world a few months later, both born in the middle of a war.
Yesterday, the images of the residents of the Ukrainian capital looking for a refuge, between the underground and the bunker, went around the world. One, however, represents a miracle: in an air-raid shelter in Kiev – and not in the subway tunnels, as was initially believed – in those tunnels that have become safe from war, a woman gave birth to a child. The story was told by an open group on Telegram, reported by the BBC and reposted, as a sign of hope, by many people on social networks.
A similar story, in his war hell but also in the beauty of his birth, had happened last August 26th. Another miracle, this time at an altitude of 10,000 meters and not meters underground: after the flames of Kabul and the nightmare of the persecution of the Taliban escaped for a matter of moments, the 26-year-old Soman Noori, a pregnant woman climbed one of the planes that for days have been fleeing the drama in Afghanistan full of dreams and hopes, gave birth on the plane. According to reports, the birth came at the least opportune moment, with the woman going into labor during the second flight – from Qatar to Germany – with a series of complications.
But eventually Havva, the third child of Taj Moh Hammat and his wife Soman, saw the light. The name of the child born under the Kiev bombs is not yet known. But history, a beautiful page in the midst of the many ugly ones of the war, has repeated itself. From Kabul to Kiev, from the sky to the underground. And it gives hope, running on social networks, to Ukrainians and beyond.
