The White House announced, on Monday, in a statement that US Vice President Kamala Harris will travel to the city of Lucerne in Switzerland on June 15 to participate in the peace conference on the Ukrainian crisis.
Harris will emphasize “the Biden-Harris administration’s commitment to encourage Ukraine’s efforts to ensure a just and lasting peace based on Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the principles of the United Nations Charter.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on his American counterpart Joe Biden, who will participate in the G7 summit in Italy, to extend his stay in Europe and come personally to Switzerland.
But Biden, who is campaigning for a second term, decided to return to the United States, according to the press, to participate in a fundraising operation in California in the presence of George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and other stars in Hollywood.
Kamala Harris intends to “reaffirm (American) support for the Ukrainian people.”
The United States, Ukraine’s main military backer, will also be represented by National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.
More than a hundred countries and organizations committed to participating in this summit held in Switzerland, according to Volodymyr Zelensky, and Russia was not invited to it.
