The deputy general secretary of ERC, Marta Vilalta, called it “nonsense” that Illa “promoted foreign oil.” “Catalonia is a country of oil, and of excellent quality! Those of Les Garrigues, also Terres de l’Ebre, Siurana and l’Empordà stand out especially,” he defended, adding that “the country and its people always defend themselves, from everywhere, every day, in every action.”
Jordi Turull, general secretary of Junts, agreed with her, who also accused Illa of celebrating the competitors of the Catalan oil producers and accused him of being “a president more concerned with pleasing Spain and the PSOE than with defending Catalonia.” . “Catalan oil producers make a product of excellence with a lot of effort. They need a president of the Generalitat and a government that supports them, not that promotes competition,” he published in X.
On the same platform, Laia Estrada, CUP deputy in Parliament, considered it “regrettable” that Illa is dedicated to “promoting oil from Andalusian landowners who compete directly.”
In his speech at the fair, Illa described as “excellent” the idea of the Jaén producers of “not staying at home” and making their oil known outside of Andalusia. “I will do it too, I want to travel through Spain to explain to us from Catalonia,” he stated. “Listening to one another and explaining oneself allows one to undo misunderstandings and malicious information.”
