Judgments | A man threatened to go through the door of a pregnant woman's home in Espoo

According to the court, the Espoo man's threat showed disregard for the safety of the woman or her unborn child.

Woman accused the man from Espoo of stalking his ex-spouse, when the man appeared repeatedly in the vicinity of her new home and had found out information about the woman's new partner and their living situation.

However, the court ended up dismissing the charges of stalking, but sentenced the man born in the 1970s to daily fines for illegal threats.

According to the verdict, the man's contacts and visits near the woman's apartment were related to the applications of their common children, and thus the man was not considered guilty of a crime in the case.

Its instead of the case where the man started hysterically asking his ex-spouse's neighbor for information about the woman's whereabouts, the man received a sentence.

According to the neighbor's testimony, the woman had been on vacation with her new spouse and children, when the accused man frantically contacted their neighbor and asked about their whereabouts.

The man had demanded to see his ex-spouse and threatened to enter the apartment “even through the door”. The man's ex-spouse was pregnant at the time of the incident, which the man said he was not interested in, he would still go.

Neighbour had been startled when the man had stopped him and started asking about the family's whereabouts. According to the court, the man's threat was aimed at the woman's domestic peace, where the man had threatened to go.

According to the court, with his threat, the man also showed disregard for the safety of the woman or her unborn child.

The man appealed his sentence to the Helsinki Court of Appeal, which upheld the district court's verdict.
