Hundreds of children and a dozen supporters clubs join the most anticipated Children’s Band after three years of hiatus due to Covid and the rains
Alba and her sister Lucía, 6 and 4 years old, can barely contain their excitement while they wait in the ‘fool’ for the color and joy of the Children’s Band to pass by. “The youngest had not yet had the opportunity to see it,” explains her grandmother who, after three years of ‘impasse’ -due to the Covid and the rains of 2019- did not hesitate this Sunday to occupy one of the chairs so that the little ones would not lose detail of the parade that kicks off the most anticipated Spring Festival.
Murcia revived, at the hands of the ‘churumbeles’, the smell of orange blossom and the color of the petticoats to jump headlong to make up for lost time. “We had a crazy desire for the parties to come back”, recognized Juan Carlos Pujante, along with one of the first floats, sponsored by Terra Natura, which toured the center of the capital.
The start of the parade, in Alfonso X, was marked by a small stir with the deployment of the chairs that ended up being resolved in an informal meeting between a person in charge of the service and the deputy mayor, Mario Gómez.
The ‘zagalicos’ began shortly after to warm up their engines with the passage of the giants and big heads, a nod to tradition, animated by the sound of flutes and drums, which was followed by the El Limonar rock float. This group was the first of the ten participants to lead the way and also the first to fill the hands of the little ones with sweets.
The air was then filled with the sound of castanets that came from the hands of the folk groups from the El Pimiento, Palmera-Melón, Nuestra Señora del Rosario, El Ranero, and El Lugarico, El Palmar rocks, which, with their dances, drew applause from the public. The colors continued thanks to the El Cañal, La Crilla and El Almirez rocks.
The quarry of La Parranda and El Zaragüel closed a parade of clubs and folk groups that brought together thousands of people defying a thermometer that reached 24 degrees. Despite the crowds, the masks were conspicuous by their absence.
Surrounded by three large pink flowers and her court of 22 girls, the Queen of the Children’s Garden, Ángela Moreno, put the finishing touch to a side that brings joy back to the streets.
