Journey to the Sunken CityHearthstone’s newest expansion, has been in the game for a few weeks now, so we had the chance to go through it from head to toe to fully understand how it works.
From its official presentation they revealed to us that we would see a new class: the Nagasand a new card type called Colossalwith which a monster composed of several parts is deployed.
After trying several games, combinations and even failing experiments, we share our opinion, advice and a few tips on Journey to the Sunken City so that you are not caught off guard.
A set focused on synergy
One of the reasons Nagas are showing up as a constant and almost dominant class in decks is that they allow for some really sick combos, not just with attacking cards, but with spells as well.
If you know how to combine them correctly, you can create damage chains that are boosted, for example, with Spiked Networkswhich deals two damage to an enemy or more if you have another of the same class in your hand.
While many might think buff magic would do the most for mages, it’s actually doing its thing for multiple classes.
The famous quest hunter builds were greatly favored with the Nagas of Trip to the Sunken Cityallowing you to complete the objective in up to 4 turns with his aggressive style.
The brutality of the colossals
Another key point of this expansion is that they added very special cards that, if you pay the cost, can turn the tide of the game in your favor.
Colossal monsters are made up of multiple cards that are deployed with just one and have devastating effects.
Total there are 10 of these beasts and they all have high costs, so you’ll regularly see them in late games or they won’t appear regularly at all.
One of the most powerful we saw was Xhilag of the Abysswho with 7 mana can summon four additional cards that deal 1 damage at the end of your turn, and even though they only have 2 life, they’re a pain.
Journey to the Sunken City gives you everything to win quickly
As I mentioned before, a proper mix of cards can make you win in a few turns if you use synergy well.
I specialized in a quest hunter, so I opted for cards with a maximum of four mana crystals, being the most expensive Drek’Thar.
Call of the Conch, Crushing Claw Enforcer, Raj Naz’jan, Spiked Webs Y Merciless Ophidian gave us the Naga force which was complemented by cards like defend the districtwhose spellcasting turned brutal.
As advice, I recommend look for decks that allow you to do the most damage in the least amount of time possible. You may not see colossals as often this way, but it works.
If you want to defend yourself, look for cards that deal damage to multiple targets to avoid being surprised by a huge beast.
Usually, Trip to the Sunken City It offers good material to modify the meta and managed to be incorporated very organically, so it fulfills its objective.
