Journalist Sadykov’s wife announced his death in Kyiv after an assassination attempt
Kazakh blogger and oppositionist Aidos Sadykov died in a hospital in Kyiv after an assassination attempt. An unknown person shot the activist several times on June 18, and he spent several days in intensive care. Ukraine has put two Kazakh citizens suspected of killing Sadykov on an international wanted list.
The killer shot Sadykov when he and his wife were at home
On June 18, Sadykov’s wife Natalia reported an assassination attempt on the blogger. “Today in Kyiv, near his own home, an assassination attempt was made on Aidos Sadykov,” she wrote on social media.
An unknown person fired several shots at the oppositionist as he approached his car in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kyiv. According to journalists, the killer used a silencer. Sadykov was hospitalized in serious condition, his wife was not hurt.
The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine has issued an international search for two citizens of Kazakhstan suspected of attempting to assassinate Sadykov. reports portal “Ak Zhaiyk”. According to investigators, they arrived in Ukraine on June 2, after which they organized surveillance of Sadykov. The suspects left the country on the day of the assassination attempt.
One of the suspects was detained in Kazakhstan on June 22: he contacted the police himself. The authorities refused to extradite him to Ukraine and added that the law enforcement agencies of the two countries would actively cooperate and investigate the case.
Sadykov moved to Ukraine in 2014
Sadykov was the author of a major opposition Telegram channel, Base, and also ran a YouTube channel of the same name. The activist criticized the Kazakh authorities, including the country’s current president, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. In one of his latest videos, Sadykov called Tokayev a “puppet in the hands of Russian influence.”

The blogger and his wife moved to Ukraine in 2014 after a criminal case was opened against Natalia Sadykova. The activist also stated that he was subjected to criminal prosecution for political reasons.
In January 2022, he supported protests in Kazakhstan, which resulted in the introduction of CSTO troops into the country. In his homeland, Sadykov was wanted for “inciting social, national, clan, class or religious discord.” Before that, he spent two years in prison for hooliganism.
