Jon Rahm heads into this year’s US Masters looking to become only the fourth Spaniard in history to win the event. Seve Ballesteros, José María Olazábal, and Sergio García are all Green Jacket holders after victories at Augusta National Club.
Rahm has been in excellent form over the last 12 months, having climbed back to the top of the world rankings in the sport. The highlight of 2021 was his maiden Major Championship win. He was successful in the 2021 US Open at Torrey Pines.
The world number one is the favorite at +800 in the bet in golf odds for the 2022 US Masters. He will be confident of another big performance in Georgia as he has finished no worse than ninth in the last four years in the opening major of the season.
Rahm had to settle for a tie for fifth place in 2021 in the tournament, which was won by Hideki Matsuyama. A final round of 66 shot him up the leaderboard after a slow start to the event.
2020/21 PGA Player of the Year
The US Open champion was dubbed the 2020/21 PGA Player of the Year at the end of the season. He was also presented with the Vardon Trophy and Byron Nelson Award for his exceptional performances across the year.
In what was a big year for the 27-year-old, Rahm featured in the Ryder Cup for the second time in his career. He finished with an individual record of 3-1-1, but he was unable to prevent Europe from losing to the US.
2022 has been a slow start for the highest-ranked player in the world. His best appearances so far have come at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and Farmers Insurance Open. In the latter, he was just one shot away from joining a play-off for the trophy.
The six-time PGA Tour winner will have opportunities to fine-tune his game before the US Masters. He is likely to feature in the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, while the Valspar Championship and Valero Texas Open are also options for the Spanish golfer.
Opposition to Rahm
Collin Morikawa is just below Rahm in the world rankings, and he could overtake the leader if he wins the US Masters. The 2021 Open Championship winner has been in excellent form himself over the last couple of years.
Morikawa is second best in the US Masters betting at +1100. This will be just his third appearance at Augusta. He has made the cut in both of those attempts, with his best place finish being in 2021 when he finished in a tie for 18th.
Former US Masters winner Jordan Spieth is also available at +1100 for this year’s tournament. He was successful in Georgia in 2015. Since then, he has finished second and has been third on two occasions.
Spieth won the 2021 Valero Texas Open and was second at the Open Championship at Royal St George’s Golf Club. A victory in the US Masters would be his fourth Major Championship win.
This year’s US Masters will be the 86th edition in its history. As ever, it is the first of the four major tournaments on the golf calendar this year.
