Owner of Botafogo was punished for offenses against refereeing and the president of the CBF after a game against Palmeiras in 2023
O STJD (Superior Court of Sports Justice) decided this Friday (April 26, 2024) to punish the North American Jonh Textor, majority partner of SAF Botafogowith suspension for 45 days and payment of a fine of R$ 100 thousand reais, due to offenses against arbitration and CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues, after the Rio team's 4-3 defeat to Palmeiras in the final stretch of the Brazilian Championship last year.
The decision of the STJD plenary, after the virtual session, was final, that is, no further appeals are possible. As John Textor had already served 28 days of preventive suspension at the end of 2023, he will only have to supplement 17 days of the suspension sentence. In a decision at the first instance, on December 1, 2023, Textor had already been punished with 35 days of leave and a fine of R$25,000.
The owner of SAF Botafogo was reported for non-compliance with articles 243-F (offense of honor) and 258-B (field invasion) set out in the CBJD (Brazilian Code of Sports Justice).
On Monday (April 22), Textor appeared before the CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) of the Senate, which investigates suspicions of manipulation of game results. At the time, the leader classified it as a “black box” the way in which the CBF selects referees for football games, and also denounced irregularities that would have helped Palmeira win the 2023 Brazilian title.
Jonh Textor is also responding to other cases at the STJD – with no trial date set yet – for not presenting evidence for the complaint he made about a results manipulation scheme.
