According to the latest Civil Defense bulletin, 425 of the 497 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul were affected by historic storms
Heavy rains in Rio Grande do Sul have already left 107 dead and 136 people missing, according to a bulletin released at 9am this Thursday (May 9, 2024) by the Civil Defense.
The storms have hit 425 of the 497 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul since April 28 and affected more than 1.4 million people. According to Civil Defense, the State still has:
- homeless: 163,786;
- people in shelters: 67,428;
- affected: 1,476,170;
- injured: 374;
Unlike the last bulletins published, only one death due to the floods is being investigated.
The situation of infrastructure services in Rio Grande do Sul and river levels are also being monitored. Here is the balance up to 5pm on Wednesday (May 8):
River levels:
- Guaíba lake – Porto Alegre – 5.04 meters
- Rio dos Sinos – São Leopoldo – 6.51 meters
- Gravataí river – Passo das Canoas – 6.03 meters
- Taquari river – Muçum – 5.23 meters
- river Caí – Feliz – 3.03 meters
- Uruguay – Uruguaiana river – 11.20 meters (flood level 15.00)
- Lagoa dos Patos (Laranjal) – 2.15 meters (measurements at 5pm on 05/08; flood level 1.50)
Electricity, water and telephone:
- CEEE Equatorial: 185,094 points without electricity (10.27% of total customers);
- RGE Sul: 194,300 points without electricity (6.3% of total customers);
- Corsan: 452,588 customers without water supply (16% of total customers);
- Tim: 19 municipalities without telephone and internet services;
- Alive: 37 municipalities without telephone and internet services;
- Of course: 10 municipalities without telephone and internet services.
Affected state schools:
- 954 schools
- 236 municipalities
- 28 CREs
- 331,921 students impacted
- 426 schools damaged with 178,326 students enrolled.
- 75 schools serving as shelters
Highways, roads and bridges:
- 81 sections with total and partial closures;
- 47 highways with total and partial closures.
