Take-Two Interactive, the gaming industry giant known for the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption series, has announced a hard blow to its Seattle office, laying off 70 employees. This decision was revealed through a WARN notification sent to the Washington State Department of Employment Security.
The Seattle office is home of the Intercept Games studiocontrolled by Take Two, which is currently involved in the development of Kerbal Space Program 2.
Take-Two, which owns publishing labels such as Rockstar Games and 2K, had already announced last month the decision to reduce 5% of its staff, around 600 people, and to interrupt several ongoing projects. This staff cut is part of a broader corporate restructuring aims to consolidate operations and optimize resources during an economically turbulent time for the industry.
The layoffs and closure of operations in Seattle represent a hard blow for the local community, which loses not only jobs but also an important point of reference in the video game development sector.
Take-Two expressed their opinion commitment to support affected employees during this difficult transition period, offering compensation packages and assistance in finding new job opportunities. However, the community and local stakeholders remain awaiting further developments and the possible relocation of interrupted resources and projects.
