Instead of displaying a main news page, the site showed an illustration apparently referring to Iranian General Qassem Soleimani, who was killed in an air strike by a US drone in Iraq on this day in 2020.
The illustration showed what appeared to be a bullet firing from a red ring around a finger, a clear reference to a distinctive ring that Soleimani had worn around his finger.
The Jerusalem Post, which is published daily in English, said in a tweet on Twitter that it was working to solve the problem.
“We are aware of an apparent breach of our website as well as a direct threat (to Israel),” she added.
The newspaper’s mobile app was apparently unaffected while other Israeli news sites were operating normally.
