Extreme testing time for the new Jeep Wagoneer S. The new electric SUV of the American brand Stellantis is undergoing a phase of its development in harsh cold conditions, with some tests on the snow and ice of New Zealand. Test shots of the new Wagoneer S were posted on LinkedIn by Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa.
The Jeep Wagoneer S engine
The new Jeep Wagoneer S has a 600 hp powertrain and 800 Nm of instant torque, with 4xe technology to ensure all-wheel drive and Selec-Terrain that allows for true Jeep off-road performance. There are five distinct driving modes: Auto, Sport, Eco, Snow and Sand. The electric traction modules (EDM) designed by Stellantis independently power the front and rear wheels for instant torque response. On-road performance instead speaks of a 0 to 100 km/h sprint that is consumed in 3.4 seconds while the 100 kWh battery allows for a range of 600 km. Charging times thanks to the 400 Volt architecture allow for a recovery of 20% to 80% of charge in 23 minutes.
Innovative architecture
The new 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S is based on the Stellantis STLA Large platform, specifically designed to accommodate 100% electric models. The American brand’s engineers worked on a specific suspension calibration, with specific length and height, adapting its characteristics to the needs of Jeep models. The Jeep Wagoneer S’s “3-in-1” EDM encloses the electric motor, transmission and power electronics in a single compact unit, which is both high-performance and efficient. The front EDM is equipped with wheel disconnects to reduce energy consumption while driving and optimize autonomy.
Exterior design
The new Jeep Wagoneer S is sophisticated and elegant in terms of styling, with a front fascia featuring a completely redesigned seven-slot grille that now closes and opens up the view of the vehicle when approaching. The new dynamic ambient lighting is inspired by contemporary architecture. The aerodynamic surface is accentuated by the precise slope and curvature of the hood and windshield, both angled specifically for optimal performance and efficiency at high speeds. The sloping roofline descends below the overhanging rear spoiler, combining functionality and elegance, with the typical Wagoneer silhouette. The Launch Edition will also feature some distinctive details, such as dark contrast inserts, 20-inch Gloss Black wheels, as well as Gloss Black and neutral dark gray exterior elements. On this model, the chrome disappears, the result of a choice by the design team, who wanted to incorporate processes and materials that are as sustainable as possible with the environment. Satin-finish trim and a dual-pane panoramic roof complete the exterior styling (US version only) for a refined open-air experience. Aerodynamic optimization work has allowed it to reach 0.29, a record for a Jeep model.
Interiors and technologies
The cabin echoes the elegance of the exterior with a mix of technology that is supported by a full 45 inches of usable screen, an additional 10.25-inch interactive display for the front passenger that is unique in the segment, meticulously crafted details and refined inserts. The 12.3-inch integrated central display, of great architectural impact, is framed by a precious mix of materials, including a refined decorative metallic transverse cover with a woven enamel motif. Powered by Uconnect 5, with OTA (Over-The-Air) updates, the infotainment system offers integrated Jeep Connect services. The cabin is enriched by numerous other innovative details, including a racing-inspired steering wheel with wine red stitching, a flat-bottom, two-spoke design that also boasts a new antimicrobial Cabo vinyl surface covering for easy cleaning. The electronic door openers, a first for the Jeep brand, are easily activated with a light touch. The repositioned starter button is surrounded by a die-cast galvanized metal trim with a textured haptic feedback pattern. The Launch Edition comes standard with a full suite of customizable LED lights with day/night settings, as well as dynamic ambient lighting with up to 64 selectable colors. The generous five-passenger Jeep Wagoneer S is the only BEV in its segment to come standard with heated and ventilated rear seats (version available only in the U.S.). Like the Grand Cherokee, the Wagoneer S also features a McIntosh audio system, which in this case boasts 19 speakers calibrated with a 1,200-watt amplifier and a 12-inch subwoofer for exceptional bass quality. Finally, the safety and driver assistance systems, with the ADAS package that includes Active Driving Assist, Intersection Collision Assist, Drowsy Driver Detection, Traffic Sign Recognition and the Surround View camera.
