Jeep announced the market launch of the versions mild hybrid models Compass and Renegade, among the best sellers in Italy in the SUV sector. The new versions e-Hybrid, at 48 V, will debut with a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder turbo gasoline Global Small Engine, capable of delivering 130 hp and 240 Nm of maximum torque, combined with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox; the 15 kW electric motor will instead generate 55 Nm of torque (135 Nm at the transmission level) to transmit motion to the wheels even when the internal combustion engine is off.
The new versions offer up to 15% less fuel consumption and CO2 emissions than previous petrol models. Thanks to the new hybrid technology, the Jeep Renegade and Compass e-Hybrid models represent a new alternative in the two-wheel drive segment. The new 4-cylinder turbo engine has been designed to best adapt to the hybrid application and optimize thermodynamic efficiency and therefore fuel consumption. Among its peculiarities, the functioning according to the Miller cycle, the high compression ratio (12.5: 1), the new cylinder head with compact combustion chamber, double phase variator and specific high turbulence intake ducts stand out. The high-pressure direct injection system, which reaches 350 bar, is also new. The braking system of the new Renegade and Compass e-Hybrid includes the Intelligent Brake System to optimize the ‘autorecharge’ functionality thanks to the mixed regenerative braking, which maximizes the recovery of kinetic energy during deceleration for the benefit of efficiency.
Vehicles can be started in electric mode, while Jeep’s Energy Recovery system will recover energy that would otherwise be wasted while the car decelerates (e-Coasting) and braking (Regenerative Braking). Thanks to the so-called e-Boosting it will also be possible to increase the torque at the wheels with the electric motor that supports the petrol engine; by calibrating the torque (driving or braking) delivered by the electric motor, it is possible to optimize the operating point of the petrol engine. The new hybrid range, which will complement that plug-in hybrid 4xe, is made up of four trim levels – Longitude, Night Eagle, Limited and S – in addition to the special launch edition. Jeep Compass e-Hybrid will be released with an introductory price of around 38,000 euros, while Renegade e-Hybrid will be offered with a price of around 27,900 euros.
Jeep also found space for a special “Upland” edition, created to emphasize the Jeep brand’s attention to the environment and its commitment to sustainability. Characterized by the use of sustainable materials and ecological paints and finishes, this new special edition model will also be available on the Renegade and Compass 4xe Plug-in-Hybrid models. The “Upland” special series will be immediately recognizable thanks to the new and exclusive “Matter Azure” livery that will “dress” the two cars like a suit in combination with the two-tone black roof and 17 “(Renegade) and 18” alloy wheels “(Compass), in perfect harmony with the themes of sustainability and green. Completing the unique style of the exterior are new MetaKrome bronze finishes, which characterize the lower front grille, the insert on the lower front fascia, the wheel hub caps and the ‘Jeep’, ‘Compass’ and ‘Renegade’ badges. In the cockpit, the special “Upland” series includes extensive use of recycled materials, which characterize the headliner, the mats with a new dedicated design and the exclusive SEAQUAL seats made with recycled plastic taken from the ocean, and which feature high-quality seams. contrast, the Jeep logo on the front backrests and an organic vinyl insert at the top.
On the Renegade, some black plastic cabin trim and components are also derived from recycled materials, and were made using headlamp plastics. The cabin also features MetaKrome bronze painted finishes on several bezels. On the Compass, both the door panels and the dashboard are wrapped in the same material derived from recycled plastics, while a bronze MetaKrome finish, made with eco-friendly paints, enhances the entire profile of the dashboard.
