The mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, assured this Thursday that the edition of the Copa del América in Barcelona “is a success” and that he is calm if he wants to carry out an audit.
“It’s a success. What we had proposed from the beginning, which was to reconnect the city with the sea, accelerate the transformation of the coastline and have a great international event, the three great objectives that we had set for ourselves, we have achieved,” said Jaume Collboni in a interview on TV3.
“I am absolutely calm if an audit is carried out, because everything they have done has been done well”
The mayor has pointed out that the Copa del América has had “a much smaller impact than many people thought it would have on the city in terms of overcrowding, because it has never been a massive event from the point of view of the physical presence of people following the regattas”, but he highlighted the media follow-up of the event.
In this sense, he pointed out that “these two weeks, those of the final, are the important ones and the audiences and the follow-up it is having internationally confirm the idea, that it is a very important event worldwide.”
Regarding a possible audit by the Audit Office of the Barcelona Capital Náutico Foundation, which coordinates the legacy of this edition of the America’s Cup and of which the City Council is one of the patrons, Collboni has declared that he is “absolutely calm ” because everything they have done “has been done well” and they trust “a lot in all the internal mechanisms we have for intervention control.”
“If they want to do an audit, or if they want to take it wherever they want, I am very calm,” the mayor stressed when asked about public complaints of possible irregularities, both in the number of visitors and also the economic impact of the regatta. and the possibility of an audit.
