An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale struck the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture, off the western coast of Japan, early this morning. No tsunami warning was issued and no casualties were reported. The Japan Meteorological Agency has reported the possibility of slight changes in sea level along the coast, but no damage is feared, according to the Japanese news agency Kiodo News. The quake struck at 6.31am local time at a depth of ten kilometers. It was followed by another magnitude 4 earthquake in the city of Suzu at 6.40 am.
