Due to the ongoing pandemic, the Japanese postal service, Japan Post, has suspended shipments from Japan to numerous foreign countries including Italy. From today, October 15th, Air, SAL and EMS shipments are blocked, leaving the Surface, i.e. mail that travels by land and by sea, and which can take up to three months to reach its destination.
The reason for this choice is due to the drastic reduction of flights from Japan to foreign countries, and from the reasons provided by the Japanese postal service we literally learn the following:
“The boarding of packages on board the aircraft could take about 1 month due to the lack of space caused by the reduction in flights. There will be delays in the delivery of postal items in the country (in this case Italy) and shipments will not be delivered directly to the recipients. “
It is not yet clear to what extent these restrictions will prevent the normal conduct of commercial activities and shipments made by ordinary citizens living in Japan to Italy, but we hope that the situation will normalize as soon as possible.
The state of emergency in Japan was lifted last September 30 in 19 prefectures, including that of the capital Tokyo.
