Russian President Vladimir Putin will celebrate his 70th birthday in his native St. Petersburg on Friday, October 7th. In honor of the holiday, Izvestia decided to recall what gifts were presented to the current hero of the day on his past birthdays.
Books were often presented to Vladimir Putin as a birthday present. For example, on his 50th birthday, the head of state received a collection of 100 jokes about Putin, to which, as rumor has it, the president replied that he appreciated good humor and promised to read everything.
On his 60th birthday in 2012, the Russian leader received another book – Dmitry Medvedev, then prime minister, presented his boss with an antique 1910 edition of Tsarskoye Selo by Alexander Benois.
It is noted that the head of state rarely managed to celebrate his birthday in the usual way for ordinary people. Only in 2000, having just become head of state at that time, did Putin arrange a celebration at the Podvorie restaurant in Pavlovsk near St. Petersburg, and a couple of years later, a festive banquet on the ship.
This year, on his birthday, the Russian leader will devote most of the day to working events – he will hold several international telephone conversations and take part in an informal meeting of the heads of state of the CIS members.
