'The Snow Society', a Spanish film directed by JA Bayona, was nominated for the best foreign film category at the 2024 Oscars in a ceremony held on Tuesday, January 23. The film based on the tragedy of the Andes mountain range of 1972 will compete with 'Io Capitano' (Italy), 'Perfect Days' (Japan), 'The Teachers' Lounge' (Germany) and 'The Zone of Interest' (United Kingdom).
The winner of this category, as well as the others, will be announced next Sunday, March 10, 2024, at a gala that will take place at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, which is located in Los Angeles, California.

'The Snow Society' is a 2023 film that is based on the book of the same name written by Uruguayan Pablo Vierci, which tells the details of the fateful accident of flight 571 of the Uruguayan Air Force in the Andes mountain range in 1972in which the players of a rugby team from the Old Christians Club of Montevideo were traveling.
The film, starring Enzo Vogrincic, who played Numa Turcatti and whose perspective is captured in the story, shows us everything that young people had to do to survive in extreme weather situations. Likewise, we can see the suffering of the deceased, which amounted to 29 of the 40 passengers and 5 crew members.
