Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio on July 15 admitted that the country would stop supplying arms to Ukraine due to the political crisis.
“Russians are celebrating the fall of another Western government. Now I doubt that we will send weapons. This is one of the most serious problems, ”Di Maio is quoted as saying. Politico.
The foreign minister also accused Prime Minister Mario Draghi’s rivals of working for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to Di Maio, if the political crisis does not stop, the government will also not be able to sign new contracts for the supply of energy resources.
Earlier in the day, the minister said that “Putin was served Draghi’s head on a silver platter.” So he commented on the statement of the head of the Cabinet of Ministers about the desire to resign.
Draghi announced this the day before, July 14. The reason for this decision was the lack of support from one of the leading parties in the country, the 5 Star Movement, which did not support the parliamentary vote of confidence and rejected the anti-crisis measures in the economy and energy presented by the Draghi team.
At the same time, Italian President Sergio Mattarella did not accept the resignation and invited the prime minister to come to parliament “for a speech in order to assess the situation that arose as a result of the meeting in the Senate of the Republic on the spot.”
The next day, Andrey Bystritsky, Chairman of the Council of the Foundation for Development and Support of the Valdai International Discussion Club, said that Europe should be prepared for a continued wave of resignations of heads of state and major political difficulties. He believes that first of all, unrest in the Baltic countries should be expected.
