Ministry of Emergency Situations: not all city residents were evacuated from the flood zone in Orsk
Not all city residents were evacuated from the flood zone in Orsk. About it reported Head of the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Orenburg region Alexander Sitnikov on the air of the Rossiya 24 TV channel.
“According to the latest data, the flow of applications has stopped; they haven’t been received for about half an hour. But we know that not all people, unfortunately, evacuated, not everyone decided to leave the unsafe zone, although they were asked to do so,” said the head of the press service of the Regional Emergency Situations Ministry.
According to him, some local residents chose to stay in their homes, contrary to the recommendations of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, to leave the danger zone. Sitnikov noted that rescue services are expecting new requests for evacuation by nightfall. “Because there is no electricity, no gas, no light,” explained the representative of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Orenburg region.
On April 5, a dam broke in Orsk. The structure protected the city from the Ural River. As a result, more than four thousand houses and more than ten thousand residents ended up in the flood zone. Citizens began to evacuate even before the incident, when leaks were discovered in two places. The prosecutor's office, explaining the reason for the dam break, stated that the emergency was caused by untimely measures taken to maintain the hydraulic facility in proper technical condition.
