Two attacks carried out by Israel on the border with Lebanon left at least 10 dead
An Israeli attack killed 7 people in the city of Nabatieh (Lebanon) on Wednesday night (14.Feb.2024). Among the victims are 3 children. An earlier attack, carried out on the same day, killed a woman and her 2 children in the village of al-Sawana. According to Reuterswas the deadliest day for Lebanese civilians in 4 months of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, an Islamic extremist group based in Lebanon.
This Thursday (Feb 15), Hassan Fadlallah, a member of the Lebanese parliament and Hezbollah, told the news agency that the Israelis “will pay the price for these crimes”. According to him, “the resistance will continue to practice its legitimate right to defend its people”.
Asked about the attack in Nabatieh, a spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces said this Thursday (Feb 15) that he was waiting for information, but that the Army would make statements when they had precise details about what happened.
The attacks represent an expansion of combat territory and a possible escalation of the war between Israel and Hamas, an ally of Hezbollah. According to Reutersthe Lebanon-based group has been carrying out attacks almost daily against Israeli targets since October 7, when the war in the region began.
Hezbollah said the attacks will only end when Israel stops its offensive in the Gaza Strip. Both sides say they are not seeking an all-out war and that the conflict is largely contained to areas close to the border.
According to the news agency, the attacks have already left more than 200 people dead in Lebanon, including more than 170 Hezbollah fighters, as well as around a dozen Israeli soldiers and 5 Israeli civilians.
