Irresponsibility and opacity in arms exports from the EU in 2023

The new data on the Arms exports from EU Member States by 2023once again show that the sale of arms in Europe is an opaque and lucrative business that benefits a few and that morally and politically impoverishes the European project.

In relation to the lack of transparency, it must be mentioned that the published data is, as always, incomplete. Neither Germany nor France share their arms export statistics of greatest political interest, that is, the transfers actually made for the year. As far as Spain is concerned, we have known the 2023 data before through the EU than through the Spanish Government itself, who keeps with suspicious of its 2023 defense and dual-use material export statisticshaving far exceeded the usual deadline for publishing them. Beyond this limitation, it is interesting to break down some of the remaining data offered by the data from the EU’s annual report, completed with the figures previously made public by the governments of Germany and France.
