Update: the rumor has been confirmed, you can find more information on iOS 18 in the news where we tell you all the news for iPhone in the name of customization.
With iOS 18, a new security feature for mobile applications and important changes to the home screen and control center could arrive. These are the latest pre-WWDC rumors, the event dedicated to developers on Apple platforms which will be held in a few minutes.
In particular, the possibility of block access to individual apps with Face ID and new customization options for app iconswhich can be darkened in “dark mode”.
The indiscretion comes from MacRumors, iOS 18 aims to give greater power to users, making the experience more customizable with the freedom to choose from a greater number of options than those currently provided by the developers. The arrival of a new security function that will allow you to block apps individually using Face ID, confirmed by various sources, goes in this direction.
Apps built into the iPhone, such as Messages, Notes and even Safari, can be locked for an additional layer of security, requiring biometric verification for access. However, it is not yet clear whether this feature will also be available for third-party apps. Previously, Apple allowed you to block certain functions within an app, but with the new update it will be possible to completely block apps even when the device is unlocked. While users have found workarounds like Shortcuts to block apps, with the iOS 18 update, you will no longer need to resort to these methods.
But this isn’t the only last-minute feature expected to be announced at WWDC. Apple also plans to announce dark mode for app icons on the home screen. For example, with the ability to display social media apps in a specific color, users will be able to personalize the experience and make the organization of icons neater.
When dark mode is turned on, a dark tint will automatically be applied to app icons on the home screen. For now this feature appears to be available only for Apple apps, but in the future it should be extended to third-party apps by providing an API to developers.
At the moment, however, these are only rumors, but we will have more details soon. Members of the Developer Program will in fact be able to install the iOS beta for testing immediately after the WWDC keynote, which as you know will be held today, Monday 10 June, at 7pm Italian time, while the general public could receive the iOS 18 beta already in July.
